XEOMIN – BOTULINUM TOXIN OF A NEW GENERATION
The first age-related changes become noticeable with the appearance of facial wrinkles. Gradually, small wrinkles become deeper and more pronounced. For a long time, Botox was the only weapon against them. However, these days we also have XEOMIN – another botulinum toxin.
XEOMIN is a high-quality product manufactured by the German company “Merz”. It has a small molecular weight (150 kDa), which allows it to be used for injection even into the small muscles: you can inject it in the area around the eyes, in the nasolabial folds, in the forehead, in the neck. You can use it for pore minimizing during the procedure called Microbotox.
XEOMIN can be also administered into the nose to reduce its size, narrow nose wings or remove wrinkles on the nose bridge. It can be also injected into the chin as a part of a complex correction of the lower third of the face.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN XEOMIN, BOTOX AND DYSPORT?
The main difference between Xeomin and Botox and Dysport lays in its composition. Both Botox and Dysport contain proteins which act as preservatives. But sometimes they can cause adverse reactions in the form of edema. XEOMIN does not contain proteins. It contains only a neurotoxin without preservatives and excipients. This significantly reduces the risks of allergy.
Another difference between Xeomin and Botox and Dysport is the fact that XEOMIN is stable at room temperature before reconstitution.
Also, XEOMIN will not “freeze” your face, so if your patients want a “frozen” look, then it’s not for them.
Last, but not least: full results manifest on 15th – 17th day, so condition your patients to be patient.
INDICATIONS FOR TREATMENT WITH XEOMIN
It is indicated for treatment of the following issues:
- Crow’s feet around the eyes, bags and swelling in the periorbital region;
- Drooping eyelids and corners of the mouth;
- Correction of eyebrows shape;
- Superficial and deep wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyebrows (known as glabella or eleven lines), around the lips (known as smoker’s lines) and on the nose (known as bunny lines);
- Wrinkles and loss of skin elasticity in the neck;
- Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis).
ADMINISTRATION OF XEOMIN
The injection procedure is quite comfortable and painless. It takes 30-40 minutes with almost no downtime. The effect should become noticeable in five days while the final result manifests on 15th– 17th day with an average duration of about 3 months.
Due to lack of protein in XEOMIN formulation the adverse reactions are extremely rare and mostly represent insignificant edema and slight redness at the injection sites. They subside very fast and don’t require a special therapy.
CONTRAIDICATIONS
XEOMIN injections are contraindicated in the presence of:
- Muscle weakness and myasthenia gravis;
- Infectious skin diseases;
- Allergies
- Oncology;
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
After XEOMIN injections it is recommended to avoid excessive use of skincare and make up products.
Also, avoid facial massage, solarium, sauna, physical activity and sports.
Furthermore, avoid consumption of alcohol and taking certain medications.
RESULTS
XEOMIN is an excellent rejuvenating cosmetic product: after treatment, the skin on your forehead, around your mouth, nose and chin will become smooth, supple, toned. It will eliminate wrinkles above your upper and below the lower lips, creases on the neck and decollete; tighten the facial oval, remove nasolabial folds, lift the corners of the mouth as well as lift and improve the shape of your eyebrows.
And if you decide to treat with XEOMIN your periorbital zone, the wrinkles in that area will disappear. As a result, the area around your eyes will look more youthful and the eyes will appear more open.
