For most of us, it’s not so much that we’re against getting older (we all want to live for a century, right?). It’s that we start out looking young and want that to stay that way for as long as possible. Today, there’s a range of anti-aging treatments that can help us look more like our younger selves. Chemical peels and especially a new product called PRX-T33 peel are such treatment.
PRX-T33, THE PEEL THAT’S NOT A PEEL
Chemical peels are an exfoliation technique. A doctor or aesthetician will apply a substance to the skin to eliminate dead or damaged cells. The process reveals the newer, younger-looking skin layers underneath. In our youth, our skin sheds old cells frequently, but this activity slows down as we age, resulting in skin that looks dull.
You may have negative impressions of chemical peels. You might think having one has to be painful. Your skin will end up the color of a tomato, forcing you to hide at home for a week afterward. There is a way, though, to get glowing, revitalized skin without experiencing the downside of traditional chemical peels, and that’s by means of a PRX-T33 peel.
It is a new anti-aging product that rejuvenates skin, improving its appearance with immediate and excellent results. It was developed in Italy by GPQ S.R.L. The company markets it as part of their WiQoMed line of dermocosmetics. PRX-T33 a liquid intended to be used as a skin treatment performed in a medical-aesthetic center setting. It’s applied topically, in a similar manner to other chemical peels; a dermatologist places drops of PRX-T33 on the area she’ll treat and then massages the product into the skin. She’ll remove any residue that remains with water.
The principal components of PRX-T33 are trichloroacetic acid (TCA), hydrogen peroxide (H202), and kojic acid. TCA is an ingredient commonly used in chemical peeling treatments. It is present in this product at a concentration of 33 percent. Hydrogen peroxide enhances TCA’s capacity for penetrating the skin layers. Kojic acid is added to help with pigmentation issues. It acts to suppress excess deposits of melanin, the pigment responsible for dark color in the epidermis.
The combination of these three ingredients allows the treatment to penetrate the dermis faster and activate the skin’s regenerative process. However, it does this without aggressively affecting the most superficial layer of the skin, the epidermis. That means it works with the deeper layers of the skin and at the same time avoids harming the outermost layer. This is possible because of the presence of hydrogen peroxide in the product’s formulation. TCA is a potent peeling agent, but the H2O2 minimizes its aggressive effects. It also lets the TCA filter beyond the epidermis down to the dermis where it works to rejuvenate the skin. That’s why PRX-T33 doesn’t cause the undesirable effects of regular chemical peels.
The skin issues that this peel can help improve are many: blemishes, fine lines and wrinkles, acne, dark spots, and scars. It also minimizes stretch marks and reduces the appearance of melasma and large pores.
PRX-T33’s patented composition encourages the stimulation of skin fibroblasts without causing inflammation in the treatment area. It also promotes collagen production, activates circulation in the skin, and increases the absorption of other beauty products. Skin that has lost elasticity looks firmer and acquires improved tone and texture. All of this makes it an excellent skin-rejuvenation procedure.
Although PRX-T33 is usually performed as a facial peel, it is appropriate for other areas such as the neck and décolletage. It’s suitable for all skin types and can be used on male as well as female patients. A PRX-T33 peel complements and powers the effects of other treatments such as facial fillers, lasers, or Botox.
To understand what makes PRX-T33 groundbreaking, you have to know how other types of chemical peels work and most importantly, the kinds of disadvantages they have. To achieve their anti-aging results, peels based on substances such as glycolic acid and TCA have to aggressively exfoliate skin. They remove dead cells not just from the deeper dermis layer but also from the outer epidermis layer. This makes them more invasive and results in undesirable effects.
The actual application of a traditional peel can be painful; burning and stinging sensations are not uncommon. Frosting also routinely happens. This is when the skin turns grayish white because the surface skin cells are being exfoliated away. Redness is common after the procedure, and you can expect your skin to flake and peel as the outer layer is shed. There’s a lot of down time associated with traditional chemical peels because this peeling and shedding process can take a week or longer. If you can’t stay home while this is happening, you’ll have to go out in public, to school, work, or on errands, all while your skin is healing. Attending social functions during this time is unthinkable.
Your new skin will be too sensitive for sun exposure, so your doctor will advise you to wear plenty of sunscreen outside (this is good advice all the time); it’s more likely he’ll tell you to stay indoors and not go out in the sun at all. The payoff for all of this inconvenience is fresh, new skin, but you don’t get to see it until many days after the treatment.
With a rejuvenating PRX-T33 peel, you can avoid most, if not all, of these unpleasant aftereffects. Because this peel doesn’t remove the outer layers of the skin, it’s much less invasive. There’s no pain during application, and it does not cause redness. The chances that any flakes will appear at all in the days following the procedure are minimal. You don’t need to stay away from people for a week or ten days. And you won’t dread interacting with them if you do have to venture out of your house. You can have the procedure done on your lunch hour and then go back to your usual routine.
Standard wisdom has been that peels are not suitable treatments for the summer months. You can have a PRX-T33 peel done at any time of year since it doesn’t cause sensitivity to UVA rays the way traditional peels do. As long as you use sunscreen, it’s safe. There’s no need for you to avoid sun exposure.
So, with a PRX-T33 peel, you can get the skin rejuvenation of an ordinary TCA peel without the discomfort and inconvenience that normally goes with it. Best of all, the effects of this peel are visible after the first treatment. Not only is there no down time, but you might even consider scheduling a session in the days right before a special occasion. This will give you just the excuse you need to go out and show off your soft, luminous, revitalized skin to the world.
Currently in the U.S., the PRX-T33 peel is only available at select spas in the state of Indiana, Florida, California, Washington.
