FILLERS 101: HOW LONG DO FACIAL FILLERS LAST?

How long do facial fillers last Beauty Supply store Anna's Cosmetics

Hi everyone, I’m Anna, the founder of this beauty supply store and today I’m going to try and answer one of the most often asked questions “How long do facial fillers last?”. So, let’s begin.

Depending on the purpose of the procedure, your medical esthetician chooses facial filler which has a certain duration of action. It can be a product that is active three months to two years.

The most popular and well-studied are hyaluronic acid based fillers, which maintain their effect for about six months. These are used in almost 80% of all rejuvenation injection treatments. True, recently they are being pushed aside by calcium hydroxylapatite-based fillers, which last up to one and a half years, and products, which contain both bases.

MAIN ADVANTAGE OF HYALURONIC ACID FILLERS

As you probably know, the effect of facial fillers based on hyaluronic acid and calcium hydroxyapatite, disappears with time, and this reversibility is one of the main advantages of contour correction before a plastic surgery intervention.

If the treatment result does not satisfy you, you can either wait until the filler is naturally removed from the tissues, or speed up this process with the help of hyaluronidase. The latter is the natural antidote for hyaluronic acid.

Please note, facial fillers have one more interesting feature: they stimulate the production of your own collagen in the injection zone. After several treatments, your own collagen fibers are formed in the re-injection site, and the need for touch up treatments is drastically reduced.

HOW LONG DO FACIAL FILLERS LAST?

All facial fillers are divided into:

  • Biodegradable – absorbable
  • Non-biodegradable – nonabsorbable.

The latter are practically not used currently, at least legally, since the risk of complications after their use is very high. These include silicone, polyacrylamide gel, biopolymer.

Of the biodegradable fillers, hyaluronic acid fillers such as, for example, Juvederm fillers, are most commonly used. Such products, depending on the specific product, are eliminated from the tissues within approximately 6-12 months. Accordingly, their result lasts for about half a year or a year. Then, you can repeat the treatment, if desired or necessary.

The administration areas also affect the duration of the effect. For example, gel dissolves faster in the lips.

WHEN WILL I SEE THE RESULTS OF FILLER INJECTIONS?

The first result is noticeable immediately after the administration. However, the effect will be even more noticeable after the swelling at the injection sites starts to subside. Usually, it happens in 7-14 days, depending on the patient’s body. It is best to assess the final results not earlier than in 2-3 weeks. If necessary, your dermatologist will carry on correction.

After the treatment:

  • Skin becomes fresher and smoother
  • Wrinkles disappear or are significantly softened, including the deepest folds
  • The contour and the overall appearance of the face look rejuvenated.

Please note that treatments with facial fillers have a cumulative effect, so the results last longer after each subsequent injection.
